My old Ledgers had their screen die BTW, the only one I have working now is a plus with multisig 2/3 together with Electrum, they can be used for stuff like that
Lots of things are made in Hungary. I'm not sure there's any basis for drawing a connection between exploding pagers and this hardware wallet just because they both originated Hungary.

My understating is that Ledger at least claims to still do the manufacturing themselves in house, and do not contract it out. Not sure if this can be easily verified though.

oh that sounds pretty complex, keep in mind the hardware wallet to be secure it must have a secure element (besides other hardware complex stuff)
I heard something about devices which didn´t safe the passphrase.
So maybe that devices don´t need a secure element.
But i´m not sure about that
