bad data is worse than no data
Discussion
Even worse is unnecessary data .. usage stats don't make sense for an open protocol .. cuz then you end up comparing with platforms !
It absolutely makes sense to at least have some kind of estimate of "how many people are using this every day?"
Nostr at 6,000 DAUs is a whole different thing than Nostr at 10k, 100k, or 1 million.
Nostr 's key metric is how many clients are on the protocol .. DAUs are for the platforms ( clients ) .. #Amethyst is an X competition..
Do you ever ask how many people use TCP / IP ?
If there were major competing standards for global computer networks outside of TCP/IP, and if I were concerned about the success of those alternative protocols, then yes it would be a meaningful question to ask.
Even the question of "how many DAUs for the internet?" Is meaningful
DAUs on planet earth too make sense π
Yep, about 8 billion π
But there is no competing planet humans live on .. last I checked :-)
No one ever does census for entire earth .. the way we compute the total number of earthlings is by adding all the countries..
That is how #nostr should be .. add up all the platforms that support nostr .. and that includes ones like Fountain who respect nostr login ..
data is not information
Yes, this parallels what I've been saying about the #mostr bridge.... If you're not willing to fix it, take it down.
Nostr has too many "zombie projects," abandoned by developers who have long since moved onto the Next Shiny Thing.
But these projects still live on to "haunt" new users and pollute the general UX of this platform.

Data which pollutes is usually bad, however, when dealing with a tyrannical government, it is every citizens duty to screw their systems up as much as possible...
