Nobody should come here, look around, and think, "Oh, too bad. All the big npubs are already taken," and leave again.

This is the effect of the centrally-planned economy some clients have created causing us to think of Nostr as a pie, where you needed to be early, or to arrive with an entourage, to get a choice piece. This would make Nostr like Bitcoin (an object limited in size), rather than an economy, that can _grow in size_ dynamically and organically, and where there is movement up and down the rankings, and where businesses or entire sectors flare up and die down in a hot, wiggling mess of creative destruction.

Imagine if Elon Musk had arrived in America and said, "Oh, shame, all the good businesses are already taken. Too bad, I didn't get here, earlier. Oh, well." Someone should be able to show up, much later, and expand the economy so much that they end up with more of it, than almost all people who were there, earlier.

This, in the end, is the promise of capitalism and a free market.

Mehr Kapitalismus wagen.

I really look forward to the day when eg a fishing forum decide to mass migrate to nostr. There's like 70 of them talking about angling and the 24 nostr OGs panic cos they don't care about their 700th 'stack sats and stay humble' posts.

The meta would change, the suck up and kiss arses will all be making sycophantic posts about the joys of carp.

I would really like that. And I have a folder full of fish memes for this very occasion.

Nostr needs a great replacement , by the fish people!

Your local rabid, shameless, fanatical capitalist would like you to know that...

This is really thought provoking. Thank you.

This is one of those weird things I write that seem just bizarre and illogical, I know, but money is inefficient technology because it adds a generic-tokenization step to every transaction.

A direct trade of goods is more effective, in theory, but asymmetry of time, place, amount, etc. leads to inefficiencies that we use money to compensate for.

But production could become so hyperefficient that you won't need money to acquire most goods and services. Sort of the way that open-source has made most software free to use. This would lower the value of money, by lowering its usefulness, even if the scarcity of that money increased.

Another weird dynamic is that requiring less human labor overall makes the value of each unit of that labor higher, as less-productive labor leaves the market and the average price rises.

If you have a rotten tooth and suffer incredible pain and are slowly being poisoned by it, and there's only one dentist available, how much is his labor worth?

Well, how much Bitcoin you got? 🤔

Wouldn’t the value stay the same? However if something then happened increasing demand then the remain ‘tight supply’ would go up in value fast. “How much Bitcoin you got?”

What are you doing to brain right now?

What are you doing to my brain?

Hmm quite interesting view. I also sort of dislike the fact that big npubs are usually what appears in a client after installation and starting it with a fresh nsec/npub keypair.

It makes sense that you would want to add surplusses instead of having to share the existing slots of time/money/attention.

On the other hand, isn't it normal that when you arrive later there are still limited resources that you can harvest from. Take cars for example. You can start a (better) car company but realistically most people only have 1 car so your market would be people that need a (new) car. It will be significantly harder than for existing car companies that already made a trustworthy name for themselves.

Same would go here. There are only so many people here with so much time. There will be people looking for something new but it will be hard to compete with the trustworthy npubs that have been around since the early days. Having a client start up with an empty feed would also be a steep uphill i think. If you ask me the relay setup is already adding a lot of complexity for new people and it would not help if they see nothing after starting up a client.

Can you make a case why i would be wrong or do you see any solutions that could be applied here?
