I agree they have gotten better since their creation, but after the gold standard was ended I only see how they have become cheaper and less reliable. The amount of plastic on a new 2023 car vs a car pre ‘79 is atrocious.
Amount of plastic is a poor metric for quality. The plastics of today are incredible materials that are often used because they're better than metal.
