See we're ending up in this weird spot, then, where the protocol exists as a sort of Platonic Form "up there" somewhere. Documentation and implementation participate in the form of the protocol, but they are not the protocol itself.

I think nostr is more postmodern than that. It's many things to many people, simultaneously. There is no platonic form, only accidents (in both senses of the word).

There's no such thing as accidents without substance.

Maybe the protocol is the matter, and the use case is the form.

You don't want protocol to be totally formless though.
