Our church (Protestant, for context) celebrates Christmastide, with events scattered throughout. On Twelvth Night we have a formal ball and dinner. It is glorious and I've become convinced that any church and Christian not celebrating the *season* of Christmas is robbing themselves of so much joy.

What often ends up happening is that Christmas events take place over Advent, which means that Advent is not fully observed. Then Christmas is one day, people are left wanting more, and get one last little party on New Years Eve. Epiphany is then left unobserved because it is mostly unknown.

Would that Christ cause a resurgence of historic Church calendar observations and celebrations among my Protestant brothers. So much glory to partake in.

Blessed Advent to you, nostr:nprofile1qqsd6ejdteqpvse63ntf7qz6u9yqspp4z7ymt8094urzwm0x2ceaxxgprdmhxue69uhhg6r9vehhyetnwshxummnw3erztnrdakj7qguwaehxw309a6xsetrd96xzer9dshxummnw3erztnrdakj7qgmwaehxw309amksetpwshxsctswpuhgctkv4exutnrduhsllhkv3

Blessed Advent, sir!

I love that our church has an Advent concert, where they sing songs of anticipation, and play "quiet" instruments like recorders, table harps, and acoustic guitars.

And then we all go out into the cold, dark, church courtyard, where they have log fires and grilled steak sandwiches and mulled wine.

That sounds awesome!

Ours does something similar! We do a Lessons and Carols every year. I'm going to advocate we incorporate more steaks into ours though 🥩

We also go caroling. In fact, we are going out today.

I like Advent music like this. 🥰

Sounds nice

This isn't Advent music, but same vibe. From St. Hildegard, a favorite of mine, and a (female) doctor of the Church.

Anglo-American Christmas should normally stretch from Thanksgiving to Twelfth Night. That's what we used to mean, when we said, "Happy Holidays".

Now, it's some vague referenced to Kawaanza or whatever. 🙄
