People have been fed the most brutal caricature of slavery, so that they will tolerate their own enslavement & believe that the lack of whips & chains means they are free.
If you have to ask permission to own things & trade what is yours & live your life, then you are a slave.
Chattel slavery has been banned but financial slavery is still in progress
