Uncounted times in our evolutionary history, a human or pre-human group -- which was advanced or unique in some way -- made the decision (or had it made for them by Nature) to separate itself from the other groups around them, and cease interacting and breeding with them, effectively leaving them behind. If this had not happened, there would have been no human evolution and no evolutionary progress, and we would not be here today. Everything depends on separation.
