you could not use amethyst, i think its ok tho if we can still reveal the content someway
Discussion
Yeah, I will move off amethyst when a better phone app comes along. But it is the nicest I've tried so far.
I disagree with it being ok or good tho. Even with reveal. I don't want the decisions of whoever I follow blocking to also affect what I see. Also the labelling is confusing. If I see the 'show anyway' reveal option I mostly assume it is a genuine spambot (which I don't want to see), I don't think it's just a person who someone I follow has a disagreement with, wants to mute, doesn't like or whatever reason they've hit report. And that isn't even really obvious, I only saw this by accident
iris is my favourite client followed by amethyst, what do you think of iris?
It's close, iris on desktop is great. Amethyst feels a lot better Vs their app. But I can definitely see iris being good enough to dump amethyst p soon 🤞
I don't use a smartphone, so I use Amethyst on an Anroid tablet when I'm at home and Iris on a desktop when I'm at work. I like both but prefer Amethyst. At the moment Iris is refusing to repopulated my following feed for some reason - it's full of stuff from a week ago.
i just use iris in brave on android, maybe try refresh? iris has been doing some weird things tho like with profile feeds
Yes, if you have to reveal every hidden user to check if it's a spambot or not then that rather negates your spam filtering.
context would indicate someone has been incorrectly labelled a bot, for example others liking their posts or replying to them, we could then counter label them as say not a bot and maybe label the persons labelling them a bot as false labellers etc, some way the truth will come out, point is you cant ultimately be stopped here if anyone else wants to see you
There seems to be a couple of problems. I am in favour of a user muting and blocking content they don't want to see. I am not in favour of that affecting what I see. It seems they can only do this by reporting as spam/offensive, so it may not even be the blocker's fault, they are just choosing within a limited option and terminology. They can also be doing nothing avtually wrong.
the point is we can choose if we want to use anothers mutes, reports, etc
nostr is about choice, and that includes letting groups censor together, fact is without very effective curation nostr will be quickly over run with spam and people wont use it over bigtech, if we want to defeat bigtech we must do everything better, including moderation
I think my gripe is simply a lack of separation between reporting spam and muting. Reporting spam is useful across groups, I agree. But not so good with a mute list of genuine users, where muting is done for any number of personal/political disagreements.
I've used that function on spammers in my comments when I would've been happy to just block them. I'm not surprised this function is being abused though.
Would be useful to have some sort of site which checks if you are shadowbanned or on this informal blocklist. Is that even possible? Am I shadowbanned on nostr dot com, type beat. I'm not tech savvy enough to know 💅

Have you tried nostrus(?) I heard it’s a better android client.
Not tried that one, will do tho. Thanks
Ah, it's on f-droid not on the play store. Never used f-droid before, so will have to investigate. I'm just a casual lol
I also had a play about on Plebstr, but that is still in development. Wonder if there are no plans for damus to be on android, think they had problems initially. Maybe gave up
