To post a photo or video press the button on the far left. Then you can choose whether you want to post a photo or video. You can also choose which folder the file should come from. After selecting, if you press the small arrows shown in the file, you can see a preview. If you really want to send it, just click on the image/video and you can then post it (this is how it works with Amethyst, for example).
