I showed a developer friend what I've been working on. He's not on nostr, doesn't care for bitcoin, calls everything "crypto", you get the idea... Also showed him the app ecosystem.

He glanced at it for a mere 30 seconds and discarded as a developer project that solves nothing.

I'm just sharing so you have an idea of how some people might be feeling when they see this space. Just a dev. project.

Zero proof of work went into that evaluation. Not a single thought about why a bunch of people might be interested in building this out. Just a crypto thing...

This is why I left that world and he's one of the few remaining people I keep in touch with. Perhaps not for long 🤣 It's good to get an outside perspective once in a while so there's some value in it I suppose.

I wonder if they'll read this 🤣

Nah, who am I kidding, not going to look for another 5 years.

Pioneers are often seen as crazy weird visionary people..

You can lead a horse to water...

A self-sovereign identity that lets you access a bunch of apps and lightning are good enough for me

GM Fren-You did the right thing leaving that space and helping out now with worthwhile endeavors like Nostr and Bitcoin. I for one thank you whole heartfelt as if you and others weren't so good at developing Nostr we'd all be on drowning in the sea of the dead bird app right now.

Fascinating to watch as people treat AI with the same dismissiveness. And bitcoin. I've lived long enough to have memories of the same dismissiveness about "that Internet thing" too. Or Amazon. Or that first cell phone I had hardwire-installed in my car with the pigs-tail antenna. Yeah, Dismissive People dismiss things.

There's SUCH a difference between that kind of dismissal -- without any effort at deeper understanding -- and something like "Not feeling a draw to that for me right now...". Dismissives I can't really keep close to me. Just no fun and feels like it lowers my emotional intelligence.

Appreciate what you do here with us!!

Most people have been burned out by social media, or maybe

that is not his thing, maybe he did not get it?!

30 seconds won’t tell ya much

it is like panting a seed

Coming from someone who has a small construction business and doesn’t code, I came here for the freedom of speech in the tail end of lockdown era. If people can’t understand why that’s important, they aren’t worth my time. I haven’t been on twitter for a year and don’t mind the lack of users here as the signal is usually pretty damn high. Lfg

He's right though. It's mainly a dev thing + 8k passionate people who stick around.

I also don't like being "pushed" into new things and prefer to find them on my own, so in that aspect, I understand your friend. Each one of us initially dismissed bitcoin and nostr in less than 30 seconds, wether we admit it publicly or not...

I remember nostr:npub1qg8j6gdwpxlntlxlkew7eu283wzx7hmj32esch42hntdpqdgrslqv024kw in an interview a while back talked about dismissing #bitcoin until 2013.

Even when #Satoshi reached out to him directly, citing Adams own work, it took Adam nearly 48 months to finally get it and start stacking. 🧔🧔🧔

Most devs/tech ppl I’ve known are a bit dense and not too keen on what is ā€œcutting edgeā€. Especially if someone else turns them on to it. The small groups of them who are, are eyeballs deep in #bitcoin and #nostr, building out the future to which ppl like ur friend will eventually benefit from.

I recently shared nostr with a talented UX/UI dev. He’d never heard of it. I sent him a link to the nostr github repo, a link to one of Max Websters write-ups on nostr, a text message saying ā€œNostr is the internet’s renaissance.ā€

Over a week and I’ve heard nothing back.

Plant the seeds, we must.

Reminds me of an obscure dev project to make computers talk to one another from long distances. I wonder what ever happened to that.

change is the toughest thing until it hits your purse.

then they listen.

i keep looking back at old ads that we still remember today and why.

frosties (kelloggs) - they taste soooooo great!

coca cola - "lipsmackin, thirst quenchin'....." song

etc

did they change social behaviour? - you bet they did!

what is Bitcoin's slogan?

what is Nostr's slogan?
