I genuinely love how strongly opinionated discussions take place here, and yet they don’t spiral into insults and name calling. Does Godwin’s Law not apply on #nostr or is this just a temporary phenomenon? 💜🫂

I see what you did there 😂 Here have a nickel on me 😝⚡️

i'd like to believe it's because of our value for value economy. i could call you a nazi and get a few zaps from a few other nazis or i could have a healthy discussion and try to make you see my points and yield zaps from both sides of the discussion even if they don't agree with what i said.

Well said 💜

🤣🤣

😁

Haha 😂

It may be a result of the mentality of the early adopters? I hope it’s deeper than that.

Open to new ideas. Willing to explore. A natural bent toward trial and error. I can see that.

Exactly. Expectations of putting in work to build an experience tailored to their needs. Okay with things not being perfect and sometimes broken. Curious, willing to listen. Find value in building vs just consuming.

You can end a discussion by zapping them. 🤣

That too. Are zaps the new bobs?

I like to think that the pseudonymity many have here gives people the freedom to think in a more exploratory way. I haven’t seen data that bears that out though. And maybe the opposite 😅

It may contribute to it but you have pseudonimity on other social networks too

Good point indeed. Makes me want someone sciency to quantify the good faith engagement here vs other places for pseudonymous accounts. I haven’t really compared, but if you say it’s higher here then I’ll celebrate. And I’m sure the selection pressure for who is here is part of it. I bet the high likelihood of having been wrong about some part of our “crypto” thesis at some point and lost money because of it is part of it too.

2 other big factors I think come into play:

1) Lack of algorithmic feed. Inflammatory posts/replies get a short lived moment in the spotlight, if at all. And then they’re gone. Algorithmic feeds change that as that short lived engagement is fed to more and more people.

2) Greater accountability to other users. I’m not sure why this exists more here compared to other social networks, but it seems to, at least from my perspective.

On one platform you get to talk to the entire world and expect mostly disagreement. On the other, you get to talk to your self selected peer groups and expect mostly agreement.

One day I will come at you!!…with love and affection…even when we disagree

🌽 🤝 ✌️

Very different dynamics at play here.

Without user defined lists, it's too hard for me to expand my follow circle much more than I already have. I'm always refining this circle. If you act like a fool, I'll likely quietly unfollow you.

I enjoy a well thought out disagreement, it means we're standing at the edge of our shared understanding. This is where the value resides.

We are all just nodes here & it's beautiful.

🧡🤙

Yea it really does get cluttered with too many followers without a way to sort/filter them. I was up to over 900 and my feed was very chaotic. I whittled it down to where it is now and it’s been better.

Overall I feel like the interactions here are more like in-person interactions in the sense that you’re either there when something happens, or you’re not and you miss it. Maybe you’ll hear about it later but maybe you won’t, and by then the people who were involved are probably done with it and moved on.

Fuck off

😜

Ah, now you’re speaking my language.

I wasn’t talking to you cunt 😘

Now, that’s taking it a little too far.

Depends where you are, in Britain or Oz it would be just far enough 😂

“F*ck off” is very different from degrading a female -_-

It’s a good word I get that it’s more offensive in the US tho so I will apologize if I degraded you .

Banter

Once you remove the word “c*nt” from your vocabulary, you can make love to a real woman instead of fapping off to bad Porn.

I’m in New York.

We do things a little differently here.

We shoot first, ask questions later.

NGL that's my favorite word. It's the only still taboo kind of weird in the US. Like when you hear your parents swear and your ears ring when your a kid and you just can't help but "oooooooooooooooooh"

Have you heard a Scottish person say cunt? That's my fav favorite. *Drool* it's like every otger weird out their mouth, but it omg. It sounds like when you drop something heavy into water. Or if you're at the watercooler and that bubble glugs up.... *Shudder*

I love it.

It's like there's a d in there somewhere when a Scottish person says it.

"Yer a feckin que-oondt"

Fuck yeah. Love it.

Mucho intersante

It’s arguable the best word in the English language

I agree so much with this that I'm going to tell everyone you aren't dead and to follow you and that biggie definitely did it

It was shug

I mean probably... But I fear him more than Hillary so I'm glad that you're spelling "Suge Knight definitely killed Tupac and so many others" wrong🤷🏽

I did it on purpose

If you think about it fuck and cunt brought us all here together right now so that kind of beautiful 😻

😂😅🤣

That’s the nostrich fam 4 ya

And I hope you understood the irony as I was saying fuck off and cunt in a thread about not debating without degrading to name calling. Layers to the onion.

Eh, I don’t look too much into anything anyone says

I don’t care. 😅

If I thought you would I wouldn’t have said it..

🤔

Probably wouldn’t have said it

Might have said it

🤣

😆

FU

yeah sure
