Man, the story of Jonah is convicting.

For those just tuning in: Jonah didn't run because he was scared of the Ninevites. He ran because he didn't *want* them to repent. He didn't *want* God to be merciful to them. He was scared they might actually repent when he wanted them judged.

That mirror sure gets ugly sometimes.

I read somewhere that Tarsus (where Jonah was running to) was in fact England (tin isle). Which makes sense if he was trying to get away from God.

He wasn't scared though. He told those guys to literally throw him into a raging sea. Guy was totally unafraid to die.

Who are the modern Nivevites? Who is it we don't want to repent? Blue haired liberal brigade of he/hims?

I've always thought he was referring to his own death and resurrection, but maybe I missed something.

And, yes, for me it's the anti-theistic Ts and Qs that are explicitly and unashamedly "coming for our kids." I'm more prone to turn to certain PPsalms. I suppose on a case by case sometimes the one is appropriate and sometimes the other.
