Why is it controversial? Happy Australia Day πŸ«‚πŸ€™πŸ»

Officially, it’s known as Australia Day. But some prefer to call it β€œInvasion Day”.

In recent years, some Indigenous people and their supporters have flown the Aboriginal flag at half-mast and worn black clothing on Australia Day to mourn their ancestors. Their actions reflect a call by many to change the date of Australia Day or abolish the celebrations.

Sadly we cannot change the past, but we can move forward together πŸ«‚

I understand. Thank you. In some regard, that's similar to thoughts on Columbus Day / Indigenous People's Day here.

Exactly, I don’t like how we are divided here with this.

My family are immigrants to Oz, I was born in Europe and came here when I was 18 months old. My family has always celebrated this day as being grateful for allowing us to live here, for the opportunity and new life it gave us πŸ’œ

My understanding from 19th century novels was that Britain shipped prisoners off to Australia to get rid of them (or give them a second chance, depending on how you look at it) - so the early colonists were not exactly voluntary.

Yes but some of them didn’t treat the indigenous people with any respect and sadly made slaves out of them.

Good to be aware of these different sides "of the same story".

Absolutely, I respect both sides πŸ«‚

Hey, good morning

Hiya Paulo, what’s for dinner tonight? πŸ«‚

Be sure to celebrate the day and do you prefer Kangaroos or Koalas for the national symbol of Australia 🦘 🐨

Both would be great πŸ«‚

Feliz DΓa de Australia πŸ‘πŸ«‚

Hey Marie! 🌈

So your country has a special day named after itself?

How humble! 🀣

Indeed very Royal of them πŸ˜‚πŸ¦˜

And where exactly is happening tomorrow? πŸ˜…πŸ€”

Happening here right now!

It’s a holiday, Friday day off-well for most(my business still carries on)and everyone is out and about drinking and celebrating most Aussie things.

Like a bbq with lamb and drinking beer all day! Just typical Aussie stuff πŸ˜‚πŸ»πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

Oh no my dear queen.

You also write "one more day till..." Till what?? 😁

Ohhhh just you wait and see tomorrow πŸ˜‚

GM Phil, are you celebrating today? πŸ¦˜πŸ«‚

I don’t have anything planned, might go to one of the Australia Day events tonight for the fireworks.

Sounds great, enjoy πŸŽ‰

I'd rather celebrate the rum rebellion...

Good morning Marie! β˜• β˜€οΈ πŸ«‚πŸ¦˜πŸ¦˜πŸ¦˜πŸ¦œπŸ¦œπŸπŸπŸπŸ˜‚
