I had a similar realization this year when I was working on my birthday. My wife and I aren't doing that anymore starting next year. We are spending those days together and we aren't asking anyone's permission.
That's what freedom is to me.

I used to work everyday of the week. This year, I decided to stop working weekends. It has been amazing! I actually look forward to weekends, those days now have meaning.
