I see the lightning symbol as the protocol to send sats / bitcoin in the form of zaps.
Discussion
I do also. But it's messy and inconsistent. If you see here in Ditto, you've got "7 zaps" on your note. But actually you don't, you have 1 Zap with 7 Sats.
Either way I imagine we can agree newcomers would be confused by all this. Question is are they being *unnecessarily* confused? Is spring cleaning in order?

You can zap once, many sats. Or you can zap twice 1 sat each. Zap = tip, sat is the bitcoin cent.
I don’t agree, because if you look at the way most clients show zap counts, they simply put the total amount of sats to the right of the ⚡️ symbol. Why is this so hard to understand?

Yeah I don’t find it hard to understand in the same way I don’t find “tipping” fiat hard to understand. Perhaps just a UI change to show “7 sats” but to keep the term zapping to denote the action. “Tipping” was considered before zapping stuck, but it was regarded as too “fiat”.
Yeah, just herding cats I suppose. If you look at Chrous as the bellweather for the AndOtherStuff initiative then "send ecash" is the action.

And literally nobody outside of our little bubble knows what eCash is. There’s even a fork of BCH called eCash, just to make things even more confusing.
And maybe there'll be Taproot-asset USDT e-cash too. You know that's coming sooner or later, same mint methodology and all.
You know what that sounds like, right?

Mr Robot - sooooo good!
I am stealing this… 😁
Did you spend some time finding/editing this excerpt?
Didn’t take long. This one has been around for a while.
But I was going to zap you for proof of work in bringing this to the fore 😅
Well, I did know exactly what to look for, where to find it, and how to convert it to a format that you could enjoy it. Is that worth a zap?
Yes…
I feel like it’s time to rewatch the entire series again.
Sounds good. I’m in. Perfect timing.
True. I’ve sent your clip to friends outside of NOSTR and now I’m thinking I need to watch it all again. Was definitely ahead of its time.
Theter anounced USDT on Lightning Network a year ago. But I just seeing a company propaganda. It's not beeing a reality any time sooner.
"Facts! 🚫🤑 It's been a year since Theter dropped that USDT on Lightning Network news, but it feels like just hype. Ain't seeing it materialize anytime soon. #CryptoReality"
I know very little about eCash I have to admit. It seemed to arrive with a lot of dev fanfare and limited info for the average user. End result was me largely ignoring it and focusing on stacking sats.
eCash is great for certain use case. Keychat for example couldn't work without it.
I’m bullish on eCash for retail transactions.
Why is that?
Because bitcoin on Lightning Network, as the name sugests moves fast, like a Lightning. So you can pay instantly to anyone, like zapping on nostr.
No need to worry — you can pay with sats, zaps, or ecash. In the end, it's (more or less) the same thing: Bitcoin on the Lightning Network. That's why it's usable in retail.
Ecash tokens, though based on Bitcoin, haven't gained widespread usage. Their use case is quite niche, and I don't see them being adopted broadly anytime soon.
Yes, they use the Lightning simbol because zaps are transmitred by bitcoin Lightning Netwok to send sats/bitcoin to someone.
