I strongly disagree. I don't even understand how someone could believe this. Like, do y'all think that OpenWRT, Red Hat, Arch, Nyx, and Mint should all be merged into one distro? Linux is already such a mess, jamming all the mess into a single monolithic project would be a fucking disaster even if it was implemented perfectly.
I think it could be good, but I also know that so many distributions created by so many people is just further proof of FOSS, and why it's good and necessary. The crap will sink to the bottom and the quality stuff will rise to the top, just like in a free market.
I'm not a big fan of Linux because there's too many of them. Every time I want to install something it doesn't work because every guide is for a different distro.
Unfortunately the other alternative is windows, and windows is worse. So I'm sticking to Linux.
Just use a Debian based one. Debian if you are expert, Ubuntu if you aren't, Mint if you want everything propietary already installed. Commands for almost everything are the same in all Debian derivatives.
these days, With chatgpt, it doesn't matter too much what distro I use. Chatgpt knows all the commands at will, before chatgpt it was too time confusing to use Google to find the correct guide..
Which means centralization.
Which proves that even the smartest people sometimes say a nonsense.
But mahjong it work is the fun part.
