Here’s a question for the BTC worshippers here:

BTC is decentralized, which is its main value proposition over other coins. That and being fixed to a limited number of coins to ever exist.

But what is stopping anyone (or everyone, tbh) from building a “Nostr coin” or some equivalent that is permissionless, also decentralized, links to lightning and whatever else would be convenient, AND has more modern encryption?

Not knocking Bitcoin, it’s part of the reason I’m here. But I am curious to know why someone doesn’t just “take the best aspects of Bitcoin” and iterate on it.

My best guess goes something like: if it ain't broke...

I'm not sure we need better encryption than what bitcoin offers, but it seems like a lot of work to come up with something that is already adopted and works just as you describe.

I figured that “the investment already exists” and “if it ain’t broke” is a large component. It makes sense.

Decentralization is just one aspect. Another is security. Another shitcoin already tried to copy bitcoin... they call themselves bitcoin cash. In fact, many shitcoins started by copying the code and changing a few things. None have the security of bitcoin.

True, but I think those were just shameless attempts to dilute the value of Bitcoin. I think that an honest attempt, however, could do right by the community. Satoshi, after all, was a man.

The existing community behind BTC and the original launch by an anonymous person.

That's what makes BTC special.

The world has changed. You can't repeat nowadays what happened 16 years ago.

I think you LITERALLY could. But I agree that it isn’t so likely any time soon.

You can not put an idea out of a mind.

The world already knows bitcoin.

True

It’s a great idea. We should call it Satoshi Vision.
