Whenever you’re facing a leftist cognitive frag grenade like “social constructs aren’t real,” it’s useful to dissect the core claim beneath their words. It’s a common tactic of theirs to hide easily refutable absurdities using pseudo-intellectual confusion spells, but these are easy to defend against with some practice.

As a case study: the leftist below claims that race isn’t real because it’s a socially constructed, arbitrary fence around a complex & continuous reality (genes). But this describes every human concept and word — language itself is an attempt to “ring fence” reality (i.e. compress it, discretize it) so that we can make sense of it.

For example: color names are social constructs. Color is a continuous spectrum; we divided it up into neighborhoods called “blue” and “green” so that we could talk about color. I can tell you that the sky is blue or the grass is green, and you’ll know with reasonable accuracy what I mean by that.

But color boundaries are fuzzy — people often vehemently disagree about whether shades of turquoise are blue or green. Following the leftist’s argument, this means that neither blue nor green exist. Colors cannot be named or talked about because it requires us to “ring fence” the color spectrum.

Expanding the argument, this means that sense making itself — which always requires discretizing & compressing a continuous reality — is invalid. Human thought itself is an impossible project. Reality is an incomprehensible soup that can only be experienced and never named. The very words the leftist used to communicate this to me are impossible, nothing but empty pointers.

This is obviously retarded, given that our compressed & discretized world models are truthful enough to allow us to shape & predict the physical world. We have inventions that work; we can move around and interact with our environment effectively. Our brains evolved to compress reality in ways that increase our survival, which could only work if the compression is at least somewhat faithful.

To deny that race exists because it’s socially constructed is to deny that anything exists at all. This is a worthless assertion that can simply be laughed at and dismissed

I’d argue the same: that purpose driven work is supposed to merge the spiritual (mind) and material (body) towards the same purpose via incentive, which is the point of properly executed capitalism. The failures are part government and part cultural and must be addressed on both levels to correct this bifurcation.

Don’t give me too much credit though: much of what I said was from Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, specifically from Francisco D’Anconia’s famous “meaning of money” speech.

Boy does she have some issues on tabula rasa, rejection of evolution as a system, and thinking that agoristic “strikes” (the working title for atlas shrugged”) would result in anything other than Waco/Ruby ridge. But her epistemology and ethical validation of capitalism are some of the most important contributions to philosophy in the last 100 years.

The problem is that these two things should be aligned.

Money is an exchange for value, a medium that acts as a representation of worth.

A philosophy that preaches money as evil or, conversely, as one sees money in and of itself (eg: “he’s only good for the money”) cannot wish to have virtue. And as the society breaks into low trust, it will eventually loose the value the money was supposed to represent like a tree with rotted roots.

This is the “ghost” side of the mind-body dichotomy.

Likewise a society that steals and befrauds, debases its currency, and rewards “schemes” and “hustles” with money has inverted cause and effect. Equally, this society will ALSO collapse into low trust as “get rich quick” schemes and throw away junk become the norm and things simply don’t work anymore because there is no human value (via work) being added to the system to maintain the value of the money being stolen.

This is the “zombie” side of the mind-body dichotomy.

It’s my own side. I agree with Ava on the historical analysis of the Bible, but I don’t believe in the inherently dualistic notion of a God separate from and independent of the rest of the universe. But, if we are looking at the creation of the Bible, the life of Jesus as a person, and the formation of the subsequent Christian religion, then I agree with Ava on those counts from a historical context. This includes the conflict between original historical figures and the official philosophical stances of the subsequent institutions.

My own viewpoint on God is as follows:

There is no north, at least not in the material sense. But yet north is a true concept. You cannot face north and see it for what it is without knowing or discovering the concept beforehand. North refers to an abstract principle of true relationships between locations on the surface of a planet in reference to that planet’s magnetic field.

In the same sense, there is no god. There is no separate god that stood outside the universe and set into place its natural order. But the thing people have called god for millions of years DOES exist, and the core truths embedded within the concept are the reason that it had independently evolved in nearly all human cultures for as long as there are records of them.

God did not CREATE the natural order, what you call god IS the natural order. This is why your scientists refer to the discoveries of their field as “looking into the eye of god”. Because the true referent of the concept of “god” is the base and immutable laws of nature that they are applying their discipline to learning. “God” is the underlying logos of the universe, the set of fundamental rules that all things must obey by the virtue of existing. They are the summation and abstraction of that what makes existence what it is.

The fallacy of “God” in the traditional sense was treating it separate from all else… as if it was something that could be spoken to directly. God in the biblical sense is the equivalent of praying to north to find your way home when you are lost and trusting the north winds and the spirits of animals to guide you home instead of checking a map or a compass for reference.

“Jesus, take the wheel” is the ultimate result of this mindset: abdicating responsibility, accepting the inevitability of an outcome, and treating a circumstance as if it has no base principles that could be applied to it.

Furthermore, this mentality carries with it a corollary abdication of understanding: it requires blind trust of an outside authority in abdication for coming to learn things oneself. It is the same concept as blindly trusting “the experts”, “the government”, or “the trusted sources”… and it all comes from the same dark place—-
