I could be wrong here, but it seems like you're upset that this is Primal being celebrated because they're a VC funded company. Am I close? I believe any client should be celebrated that is adding features like this with great usability. When the next client adds a great feature with a great UX you better believe me when I say I'll be shilling it. I shill all Nostr clients and services that I use and like 🥹

I agree on the second part. People are told that they don't need to KYC to use Nostr and then it's confusing that they are asked to do so here.

I don't have a problem with the funding explicitly, it is that there are better solutions more in line with the value prop of nostr.

I like when any client creates a new feature, I hype them as well.

What I don't like is that many are being funneled into a situation they may not fully understand while thinking they are using some rebel tech.

As early adopters and a very well connected individual like yourself, we should be very vocal about pointing out the pitfalls for new users.

How is retention going to be once all these primal users realize they linked kyc with, npub and IP address?

the primal wallet is able to hold a maximum of 1M sats. it's not an incredible amount of money. it's just a spending wallet.

i think that they're filling a niche of users that want to use nostr, use zaps, and need to buy bitcoin to do so. i met 3 of these users in person at nostriga. they told me they were not bitcoiners and needed bitcoin for zaps and had no clue how to get it. primal solves this problem for them.

i believe the vast majority of people don't care about some of these things that you may care about. most people use centralized exchanges, right? if we want people to not kyc and use decentralized solutions then those solutions need to have a better user experience. that's just the world as it is now, man. not everyone is super technical.

In four years or less this amount will buy a really nice car.

I have no issue with a small value custodial spending wallet.

I think most should get onboard with a cashu wallet and earn some sats by noting some value. Then at 100k sats open a self custodial LN channel with Zeus.

The long term implications of buying kyc and spending bitcoin without reporting could be a problem for these users who aren't being informed about what they are doing or some of the incentives at play convincing them to do so.

I am not a technical person either. I am just critical.

you're more technical than you believe. most of the world will not be using cashu in it's current form. you're ahead of the pack here.

again i do agree that more notice in the onboarding process should be available to users.

I have done my homework but I can't even edit an env. file to save my life lol!

Meanwhile take a moment to look at the settings page of cashu.me

Then think of how this works with nostur reaction buttons and nwc

👀👀👀

haha. most people don't even know the nostur hack to enable zaps lol. see this is what im talking about. things are too damn complicated because not everyone wants to deal with apple's bullshit.

But the work around is so much more fun than kyc!

Nostur zaps hit so different 🌩️🌩️🌩️ its awesome!

Plus that solution I just pointed out, gives you a free LN address and zaps auto redeem from npub.cash right into cashu.me wallet plus let you zap in nostur via nwc to cashu.me

i think you're probably overestimating people's willingness to go through all of these hurdles and im probably underestimating it by some as well.

Great conversation! Thank you both. 🫡

I use Amethyst. But downloaded primal. Was confused when I hit the enter full name and email. I mean, that in the world do they need that for! Seems fishy to me. So I deleted the app again.

Is there a kyc issue? If so, I didn't encounter it during setup. Will something change on this when the DVM feature rolls out?

The wallet asks for personal info with setup so it can buy from strike api.

Hmm. Didn't remember that. Probably because I didn't divulge my personal info (my own best practice, so I don't really think about it anymore.)

Glad you reminded me. If I onboard others, I'll make certain to remember.

The first step in onboarding with primal wallet is to know you should lie. Lol

Noted! Lol. Will pass on message to any recruits.

Or have them use something else entirely that retains freedom.

I definitely get ya. I use Amethyst, too, now. So, I'll remember what to recommend based on use case. When I try to explain freedom and privacy technology, in general, there are some people who get it in principle, applaud it, even personally recognize how much we need it, but then just buckle under and type of extra steps - even a little bit.

I talked to a lady yesterday. She was completely intrigued. Kept asking me questions and dialoguing for an hour. At the end she said (and I didn't even bring up this topic), "If the apocalypse happens, just let me die. I'm never going to have the skills to do something different." To which I said, "Alrighty, then. Well, it's been great talking to you. Lol."

Maybe she'll pass the info onto her husband or kids. (shrug)

Wow. Just curl up and die.

Yep. Couldn't believe it.
