I have one device that gets truly regular driver and firmware updates from the manufacturer, even though it’s more than a year old:

My Microsoft Surface 8 Pro.

Microsoft is a lot of things, but they’ve still got the special sauce in their hardware. Let’s hope the recent leadership changes in that devision doesn’t ruin that.

So it just works? Maybe a dumb question, but I'm so sketchy about dropping cash on stuff that ends up being junk.

Depending on workload, yes. I wouldn’t try to use one with a different OS (I did get *most* things working in fedora) or to try to use it as a workstation class device.

For surfing, notes, and even sketching and light digital art… yeah it works really well. For anything heavier I’d get the Surface Studio.

Thank you. I'm definitely lightweight & I don't foresee that changing a whole lot. Just fed up. Buying cheap crap because I don't do much has cost me a lot more than it should have.
