So apparently I purchased incompatible RAM for a SECOND time. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

After going through the manufacturers extensive list, it turns out that the first model below will work, but the second will not.....

CMT64GX5M2B5600C40

CMK64GX5M2B5600C40

But there are a plathora of models that start with "CMK..." that are compatible, even with the same speed and the same capacity and XMP support... and I have no idea what that K stands for, but there isn't a single other thing is all the specs that is any different... except for that one f*ckng "K"

Man, my relationship with computers is a real special kind of love/hate

Skynet waits another day

2 steps forward. 1 step back.

You need 128GB (32GB x4) 6000Mhz RAM by any chance? 🤣

Hehe negative

I've never had a problem with RAM and had no idea they had gotten so specific now. With all of my custom machines (I've had one running basically at all times since I was 14) it always seemed to just be a matter of getting the right socket, DDR type, & speed, and it has always just seemed to work. I've never had a compatibility problem.

I guess I'm just out off practice or got complacent and thought I could just kinda piece meal it together without following an explicit list. Frustrating as hell though.

Hmm, I guess it could happen to me, too... Lots of letter btw: https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051011331-DDR4-memory-module-dimensions

I don't miss this particular part of building computers. But I do miss building them when everything is perfectly matched! 😂

CM is Corsair Memory.

K is “Vengeance LPX”

T is “Dominator Platinum RGB”

The T type is better because it can handle higher clock speeds.

They should put a checksum at the end of the part numbers so you don't accidentally waste your sats...

Don't give up, skeleton!

😂

I once bought ram that was recommended to me by a site "because I got this motherboard" that turned out to be incompatible. Biggest facepalm IT moment of my life.
