The Apple Watch is the thing that convinced me to get my first mechanical automatic watch.

Having the time on your wrist is in fact useful, but needing to charge that mofo every day for an hour is pure insanity. Not to even mention the privacy considerations etc.

Having a tiny work of art machine on my wrist that powers itself from the movement of my arm and can track the time, the date, the day of the week, the month, and is also a chronograph feels like magic.

I bought my new son in law this watch as a wedding gift because he’s in the military and he’ll be able to track home time along with his local time while deployed, and it matches his uniform. Plus, it will last his entire life as his marriage should.

I love automatic watches. It reminds me of the 20th century in a way I’m deeply nostalgic for.

It’s one of the promises of sound money that gives me hope. We should see more finely made products built to last a lifetime.

We’re lucky that the automatic watches have been kept alive so we can still experience them in a fiat world.
