My ego never had much chance to develop. Most of my early years were spent in a harsh environment, dominated by fearful, zero-sum people. So, week by week, that ego withered under destruction of others.

By the time things improved, I had already been used to live in ways that didn't depend on ego.

Nowadays, I mostly manage it through identities. Whenever I start taking myself too seriously in one, I switch. I shift focus back to goals - to what needs to be accomplished, rather than the illusion of self-importance.
