Good entry level advice, this took me a long time to understand:

Only one piece of advice missing:

Be prepared to loose the battle, because you’re focused on winning the war.

A good example of this is birds fighting for nuts at a bird feeder.

If they fight until their is a winner, they both loose, one more than another. A clever bird will run away from the fight (loose) and come back to feed later.

A really clever bird will watch two other birds fighting, and go in to feed while the battle is taking place.
