Block 887212 made history. On Monday, a home miner found a block, earning 3.15 Bitcoin plus 0.025 BTC in fees.

The miner was using a Bitaxe, a small open source miner with a hashrate that's 1/27 of the iconic Antminer S9's (0.5GH/s vs 13,500 GH/s).

With only 3.3TH he solved the 297th solo block at Solo CKpool with his 480GH bitaxe.

A miner of this size has a 1 in a million chance of finding a block per day. In other words, it would take 3500 years to find a block on average.

This 1-in-a-million chance to the jackpot only cost ~$150 for the device and a few dollars for electricity.
