In my opinion, it is more convenient to use with signing devices such as SeedSigner or Passport. With seedQR it is almost fool proof.

But the question that then comes up for me is, doesn't it make sense to use an m of n setup directly?

You need the configuration to be sufficiently be backed up too. Many people lose the descriptor or don’t sufficiently back it up…

For me, the descriptor backup would be part of at least every seed phrase. But you are right it is on more thing to loose
