The relationship between the US and the EU is like that of a manipulative parent and a spoiled, insecure child.

The parent has instilled all the bad habits in his child, achieved his own ambitions through him, imposed his lifestyle on him, but also threatens to kick him out of the family home "if he doesn't get his shit together." It's time for him to grow up, even though he's not allowed to grow up.

The child is already old enough, has some school, is ready for an independent life and constantly shouts that he's going to leave, but he likes it when someone else cleans up after him and is aware that there won't be money for avocados, whey protein and 20 subscriptions to streaming services if he has to pay rent and a car on his own.

They still live in the same house, but the relationship is definitely not healthy.
