The ability to entirely disable DMs on nostr wouldn't be a terrible feature to add.

Not all clients support DMs. Use those. I couldn't do what I do without Nostr DMs. I have zero problems with them.
Mine are filled with mostly bots, which I have no way to filter out, and I don’t like that anyone can see who you’ve messaged and how often. 🤷🏻♂️
Curious whats leading you to think this
Metadata is public and my DMs are full of bots, mostly.
I get nefarious bots sometimes but using Amethyst helps sort people I follow (Known tab) vs those i dont (New Requests tab).
Without DMs the bots that I have that allow for configuration and reporting wouldnt otherwise work without polluting public/global space as kind 1 notes.
What this tells me is we could possibly benefit by more tools around web of trust, and for clients that support DMs to do better organizing/filtering
Until then, the option to just toggle off that functionality, maybe with a custom auto-reply, would be nice.
