For curiosity, I went through my Brazilian bills and found out that the date printed is for the design of the bill, not for the printed date.

We can estimate the date of printing by the signatures on them.

Maybe the US bills follow the same idea.

I've learned from other comments that this is correct for US bills too. That's why the years on the bills are usually 4 years apart.
