Depending on what definition of liberal. If you mean these days, see Mr TheSpaceBum's answer. If you mean liberal in the sense that Mises used it in his days, there is no major difference

Small government, private property, etc… in Spanish they are synonyms… it’s a little confusing

In the US at least, the term got highjacked somewhere along the way. That's why sometimes people will use the term 'classical liberalism' so as to not confuse it with whatever the modern version is.
