I don't quite understand why suddenly Americans noticed that one of the presidential candidates is an old sick moron, just because in the previous elections he was the same old sick moron and that absolutely didn't prevent him from becoming president.

It could be more than one third of a century ago a retired spook told me that replacing head of state might actually make no difference. It is not important at all as the apparatus stays the same. He probably meant what we call now 'deep state'.
