No hate, but I saw a big ado made about Threads reaching 100 million users faster than any other social network in the past.

However, with their built-in Instagram user base, is that really an apples to apples comparison of growth and early adoption? 🤔🤷‍♂️

Am I just splitting hairs, and trying to pick it apart? Yes, maybe… it was just something that came to mind.

Is every instagram user already signed up? I though you had to specifically open a threads account

I think you have to download and can then use your existing insta account if you have one maybe?

They can easily influence their built in base to give it a try. Hard to take anything Meta says at face value.

I thought the same thing. The difficulty level is lower because people already have a relationship with the company.

This is kind of what I’m thinking. It’s not equivalent to a first offering from some unknown company or protocol.

Still good for them and they will obviously have lots of users, but it’s a different context.

It is more easily accessible to the masses than something like Nostr. I think the majority of people couldn't understand relays, even if you held a gun to their head, metaphorically

Additionally, how many of those users are fed from both farms? Look at the bird app. That place was (and still is) infested with bots.

I think you’re right. That’s a mere 4% of Insta’s monthly active user base.

Impressive though that (allegedly) less that 10 people worked on this for half a year and and it is already worth a gazillion $$$.

I think there is is room for everything:

Insta and threads for fluff

Twitter for fighting and frustration

Nostr for truth, ideas and freedom
