vlog apps need video compression and vloggers shouldn't go over 720p. Nobody needs HD or 4k on a 5" display.
Discussion
Said nobody ever when not on nostr which is painstakingly slow when rendering videos.
I've been saying this for years and long before nostr. I've been streaming since 2018 and it always blew my mind that creators have no measure when it comes to the size of their content. Images or videos, makes no difference. Most people watch streams, podcasts and co on mobile devices these days. 4k is absolutely overrated. We're not watching to read text on-screen but to watch video content.
4k is a luxury. But 1080p is absolute minimum. Have you watched porn in 720p? It makes you wanna spend more on your internet.
I only watch HD porn in my home cinema on the big screen. When I watch it on my private plane on the phone 480 is good enough to flap before landing.
Agreed.
If its a short nature video or some detailed art, HD is good but outside of that kinda stuff it's completely pointless.
Agreed
Plus I rather watch a stream or video at 720p with 60 FPS or more over a 4k video with 25-30 frames.
What vlog apps are having problems??
just in general. a lot of the video content on nostr isn't mobile ready. doesn't matter if streams or vlogs or just random clips being shared. Most of them are in the hundreds of MB which could be compressed A LOT
I don’t think it’s going to be possible to scale it anytime soon. I think the very nature of decentralized networks would continue to create micro bottlenecks. We would need some kind of centralized yet not… data storage to more directly pull from like p2p instead of relay…
It would be a good start if people open up their phone settings and change the camera setting for images to lower than 30,000 x 40,000 pix or, when recording, change their video settings to something "web friendly".
