Mouth experts of nostr; lend me your ears.

I’m in constant pain. Went to the dentist like three weeks back to deal with pain; they cut into my gums to clean what was there. Pretty sure they broke parts of my jaw as I had a bone shard come out and have what I’m assessing to be part of my jaw, a bone shard still connected, sticking out of my gum.

What can I do? Should the dentist pay for this?

Help.

Call the dentist that did it and ask about it

You may be able to sue him for malpractice if you were injured from a surgery

How could I prove?

Im no lawyer or doctor but seems from your story it’s a direct complication caused by the surgery. I would just ask him if this could be caused by his work and it’s been hurting since the surgery

I just sent an email; it’s like I’m in a time warp. Like three weeks ago to the day…no, the hour, I was laying in bed just like I am now and said “fuck it this is hurting too bad I’ll make moves.

I sent an email and they hit me back 6:00am (two hours before they opened) and got me in at 4:00 that day… I thought I was so lucky.

Anyway

I just sent an email and I’m sorta hoping the same thing happens…but not at all the same way.

I’m sorry for rambling; it took my mind off the whole thing some how.

GN, brother.

Bless ye.

Best of luck dude!

Sounds like you need the lawyers of nostr

Bone spicules are common after extractions or curretage (sounds like this is what you had). Infection actually destroys/dissolves bone in the jaw. The hard piece or pieces you feel usually work their way out. You can apply Orajel to make it less painful or go back to the dentist to numb you to remove it.

If you have a fever or see/taste infection, return to your dentist.

This is super super helpful.

As of right now it’s just discomfort and slight misshapen inner gums on the lower mandible.

No infections at this point as I am finishing up a weeks round of amoxicillin today.

I feel like I should probably make an appointment just to make sure there’s not irreparable damage as there most definitely was infection at the beginning of this whole thing.

Follow up if it makes you more comfortable. Believe it or not another bitcoiner on Twitter contacted me about this last week after suffering for weeks. It finally worked its way out a few days ago.

Holy Moses. Went back and they pulled a record breaker out of my gum.

Here it is.

Whoa that is huge! You had not had a recent tooth extraction prior?

Negative. They made an incision and salt water rinsed it about 4 weeks ago to the day.

Dentist who pulled it out said it’s possible what the first visit did was make room for the piece to move around

He also said that clenching/grinding can cause it and that I do have extra bone in the area.

As a good doctor should he wasn’t so much concerned with the why and only with what I was tasking him to do, remedy my pain.

*sigh* if only more professionals were…professional like that.

Anyway.

YOU! Thank you for you knowledge and recommendations. Happy to have crossed your path and hopefully will again

🤘🙏🤘

So glad it was taken care of and you feel better!

I will say that I highly disagree with you about good doctors only addressing an issue without addressing the why. This is the reason we have a country full of fat patients on a boatload of prescription drugs to take care of their symptoms and not getting them any better.

If you don’t know the cause of a dental issue, it can happen again. My 2 cents from 26 years of experience in private practice.

I wasn’t very clear or direct with my point in that regard; and you are on the mark as far as take a pill to solve it all society.

I guess I meant more like he wasn’t about branching out of the dental / medical field into moral Judgments … still not sure if I’m making sense

Ahh I think I got you. Dentists seem to be particularly bad about shaming people about their situation. I have heard numerous stories over the years where patients were told they needed deep cleanings or fillings before their toothache could be addressed.

Happy to have made that understandable as I’m fairly vocal about the multifaceted decay of modern folk and agree with your previous statement for sure.

They did end up talking me into scheduling a cleaning…insurance I believe covers it completely. I guess it is important to have done but I brush pretty religiously. Don’t floss much tho

Gotta love Nostr and the ability to have conversations with the purest community the world has ever seen. 💪
