I've been using Ente for half a year now and it allowed me to cut ties to iCloud (in terms of photos, I still use a tiny amount of disk space on iCloud for a few apps like Notes and Reminders and Calendar to sync trivial amounts of data between Apple devices, downgraded to the free tier).
