A person cannot become more free unless he or she embraces the attendant responsibilities.

Nostr is a community of persons.

Therefore, Nostr cannot become more free unless it assumes greater responsibility for the right relationship of its members.

We can't achieve the positive ends for which Nostr was created without assuming some responsibility for the bots, trolls, and other bad actors.

"Mute and move on" is a start, but ultimately, those who contribute to the community must assume a greater responsibility for the well-being of its members.

I've never used Damus so I can't comment on it. But I feel like coracle, amethyst and nonsocial have great features already in place which resolves a lot of this(?).

The WoT sliding scale filter thing by coracle thing seems particularly well thought out

The web of trust concept is a promising one, for sure. It brings filters and recommendations to the forefront.

There's room for relays or APIs that do WoT filtering or blocking closer to the source, though. Currently, I believe it all has to happen client-side, which will hurt performance.

Yes, hurt performance all around. Relays may filter low WoT content, like a spammy npub commenting on tons of posts of those who don't "trust" it. I think it'd need a threshold, though, because it would otherwise lock new users out.
