I wonder where cabbage gets it name from. Sounds a lot like garbage. Like what is a bage. Who the fuck decided this stuff.
You can usually blame Old French and / or Latin. I think in this case itās āCabocheā / āCaboceā from the French, which both mean āheadā. Plus thereās āCaputā in Latin which also means āheadā. A head of cabbage! Knda makes sense now.
I love how humans went crazy with the mustard plant. It's like half of our veggies.
Yeah mustard plants are a species within the Brassica / cruciferous genus, which includes other species like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts etc. Some evidence of anti-cancer properties too.
So good. So nice to stretch other things, too. So good pickled. So good raw as slaw. So good stewed. So good fermentedā¦

A simple slaw with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and red chili flakes is great too. So easy, and it's great raw or fried.
Some cabbage shredded finely stretches a spicy chili a looong ways. Makes for a filling low calorie meal. One of my favorite bachelor chows.
