Story timeā¦
I asked Senator Dick Durban if he still thought Bitcoin was āgamblingā (referencing a July 2022 letter to Fidelity he co-authored with Senator Warren).
Bitcoin was $20k at the timeā¦
He proceeded to ramble about ācrypto ATM scams,ā said we need to āclean up our act,ā and said bitcoin could āimplode tomorrow.ā
He also brought up FTX, which is funny because DICK TOOK MONEY FROM SBFā¦
Generally, he made clear that he thinks Bitcoin is absolutely terrible.
I asked in my question good faith to give him an opportunity to show heās changed⦠to show heās not just a parrot for Warrenās talking points⦠but he immediately got hostile and visibly angry that we dared to advocate for Bitcoin.
I, and others, tried to respectfully explain where he was mistaken and conflating things done by bad actors that have nothing to do with *Bitcoin*.
But Dick couldnāt be bothered with facts or logic. He shut us down and he refused to talk about Bitcoin further.
Senator Durbin clearly has zero interest in having an honest discussion about Bitcoin, but luckily he is 80 years old.
We can hardly expect an octogenarian politician to grok Bitcoin. But the sad part is, people pay attention to what this guy says⦠His, and Warrenās, anti-Bitcoin stance drives their supporters away from Bitcoin, and their supporters NEED Bitcoin, even if they donāt know it yet.
What dinosaurs like Dick donāt understand is Bitcoin doesnāt need their permission.
