I have just had a brainwave

In UK supermarkets 90% of the tills are unmanned

And people are forced to queue at the one or two tills open if they have a trolley load

Self service are for baskets only

So with all the empty tills, why don't they add the self service screen to where the cashier sits, and the customer can load their shopping on the conveyer belt and scan the shit themselves!!!

One thing that gets me about those self service tills for baskets only, there's no room, it's like elbow room only

Literally everyone would queue up to scan their own groceries because there'd be like 10 tills to choose from and loads of room

What you think??

100% correct and eventually they'll get there. Might require some business churn to create the opportunity for redesign.

AI gon beat me to it 🤣

We already have this in AU. Works well but I have noticed that as service staff dwindle and security guards increase the vibe in the supermarket is tending towards existential despair. I’m not sure how this will play out for them over time. We hardly ever go there anymore.

True, it is a worry
