I've been on the fence for a while about setting up my own server again. I used to be pretty active on there.
Well, I'm on someone else's server, but I have an account. 😂
Honestly I find XMPP a lot easier to setup

It's very noisy if you federate publicly, too prone to spam IME, identities aren't portable... For a private organization of known users, as an MS Teams alternative maybe, I think it's great. For anything else, it's pretty flawed.
That's what we're using it for. Instead of Slack or Simplex.

I used matrix for two years or so. It is not that good eventually
In what way?
We're just liking time, until we get our company-internal relay community going. Chachi isn't stable enough, yet.
