Anybody tried Linux Phones on here? How's it? How has your experience been?
Discussion
I did it a long, long time ago, so I better not polute everyone's view with my outdated options. But it's fair to say that I'm more enthusiastic about Android 16 Linux VM support than full blown Linux phones. To say something positive, KDE Connect is great software and I use it to this day (not only on Linux by the way, I'm running it on macOS as well, and did run it on Windows when I was forced to use Qindows at work)
I see sailfish can run android apps, which is half of the problem with it, I'm just preparing for the off chance that grapheneOS is not accessible in the future 😛
Sounds exciting! I’ll definitely have a look at it in the future. In my circle, there’s a bit of geeky hype around Fairphone, but it’s probably more about the hardware and repairability than /e/OS itself. Still, it might be worth checking out as another potential fallback in case anything happens to GrapheneOS (although I think that they are doing nust fine). Unfortunately, the Android custom ROM scene isn’t as diverse or exciting as it used to be.
Sandboxed Google play is way ahead of microG in terms of compatibility, I'm considering getting an Android to test out lineage or /e/OS or a Linux phone, none of them look as good though
Lineage is perfectly fine. I've been using it for years.
MicroG works for everything necessary. If something doesn't work with it, you don't want to be using it at all, IMO.
No but I'm also curious.
I haven't tried them, but I bet the answers from people who have will be misleading because Linux phones are probably getting better too rapidly to keep track of right now.
Like, you can get answers on where it's at today, but any issues could be fixed in the time it would take you to buy a Linux phone and get it shipped to you
Termux on GoS can run Debian
Tried pinephone 3 years ago… manjaro os and postmarket os were running and basic function like mobile calls, sms, internet were acceptable.
But for daily usage the hardware was too slow. The display did not have a good touch display. And the OS and Tools were not designed for small mobile screen.
