“Active courage is a steadiness and bravery of mind that is undaunted at opposition or threatening dangers. Passive valor is that constancy of soul that enables us to bear sufferings without repinings or outward tokens of sinking or despondency.”

This is from an article on holy courage where Sir Isaac Watts contrasts two forms of Christian courage. The point is that the Christian must not remain in himself but should strive to actively trust God and love others. In this active obedience steadfast faith and courage increases. I would add that there is indeed good reason to trust God and not ourselves. Regarding man: Don’t trust, verify. 🦾 None of us is worthy. No, not even one.
