My middle daughter got very dressed up to go to her (second) annual tradition of attending the Nutcracker, with her guy.

I am proud of them, understanding they want to establish traditions in their life together. Making memories is one thing we’ve instilled in our kids: never take today for granted. Make the most of every day, for we only know a small bit of our story.

GM! I found a nice gently used kids guitar at the local thrift. This will be my kid’s second one. First one he beat on pretty good, neck is broken, missing a couple strings now.

He now knows if he were ever to get a new guitar he’d have to treat it much better than his last one. He’s all in, so he says.

Recently he’s been listening to the BeeGees and today he’s into “You Should Be Dancin’”. Thankful for this kid, who doesn’t whine about not enough time on a device. Just pivots to something else like playing “music”. Cultivating low time preference takes time. Seeds sown develop slowly, but it’s the most valuable time I’ve spent. Absolutely rich beyond measure. Also teaching humility which doesn’t come naturally to our sinful flesh.

Anyway, that and homemade sourdough toast, nostr:npub1uzt238htjzpq39dxmltlx60vxym9fetk9czz6kddq6fhvkf4z3usy9qtrh butter and good conversation with my boys makes this a day to remember. ☕️

Doesn’t always look like this but today this is productivity this morning. Building character, one hour, one day at a time.

GN sleep tight, don’t let the sharks bite

Circular economy. Some may boast about this or that but I think this is another opportunity to exercise humility. Find basic food items locally and then help others get connected. Lead by example for your kids to emulate. They’re watching you 😊

This may seem a daunting prospect but really it can start simply and small. I’m still learning but I think this is the way.

I’ve been working to onboard some local friends to bitcoin, to accept Lightning payments for food products I currently pay for in fiat. My goal has been to keep money in my local community (who need income!) as they produce food my family will consume. I look in my fridge and say: “what else can I live without or replace with something sourced locally?”

Be encouraged if you’re a producer. Be encouraged if you’re trying to do the above like me.

Be encouraged, but most of all keep going, keep pushing forward.

In my previous work as a contractor I once paid a guy for some coaching. One of the best lessons for me was his comment: “80% of the people who want to do business with you don’t know about you yet.”

And here we have nostr, and we can just do stuff.

Saturday I went to the secular religion gathering in Ann Arbor to watch grown men throw a leather thing around and get all excited about numbers and forcing each other to the ground.

Once in a lifetime trip for my son and I, because we could still barely afford to go. Sat near the OSU marching band. 🎶

Stack sats or stack memories? It’s always the dilemma. Was a learning experience for he and I we will not forget, mostly excellent with some great teaching moments 👀😅

Good morning friends

“The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent ignores an insult.”

Proverbs 12:16 ESV

Notes: Self control is characteristic of the wise. The fool reacts too strongly and too soon, destroying relationships. The wise person leaves the way open for reconciliation. (The Reformation Study Bible)

Oh yes. Currently it’s basically winter and relative humidity is low (unless you have a moisture source 😬).

So, if you test your indoor humidity and it is UNDER 50% you’re probably good to go until spring when humidity seasonally goes from low to high. That’s when you should consider a dehumidifier in your basement or crawlspace. Yes, you should get one. Yes I have recommendations (Aprilaire), 75-80 pints per day, depending.

Currently you should be good but make SURE your gutters and downspouts are working as designed and that rain runoff is channeled at least 10’ away from your foundation/basement/crawlspace.

I am thinking of going back to consulting this kind of work as I was pretty decent at it. We’ll see. Hope that helps

My experience with these is limited. They may be good but I don’t trust anything I can’t verify when it comes to IAQ (and other stuff).

IEPs indoor environmental professionals aka industrial hygienists do tape lift testing, swab tests, air cassettes via air pump and material testing if needed.

My go to has always been call a professional if it’s justified (possibly a sensitivity). Sensitivity to IAQ issues are a real thing (so don’t make that mistake 😅).

A lab report gives an industrial hygienist something to build a scope of work for. From there I would take their scope and complete the work, and if the client wanted to get a PRV (post remediation verification) we would make sure the job is cleaned exactly to spec. PRV clearance testing is at the owner’s expense so, it’s not cheap to get all the work done and clear the job.

My view has always been: let the client know the costs up front of different ways to approach, and save money on testing to go toward remediation if it’s known that will be needed. Knowing that up front helped them decide which way was best for them to proceed.

Future prevention was my favorite conversation. “ An ounce of prevention”, per se. That’s another conversation. For another day

Grace and peace

Also, I forgot to mention that a big box store mold test won’t tell you genus or species. The results will be generic and possibly unreliable depending on the sample. To drill down into the exact genus and species you’re looking at getting someone to bring in air sampling pump with cassettes. They charge a show up fee and usually additional for each sample, so it can go to 250-300 USD fairly quick

Interesting that you should ask. I was a mitigation/mold contractor in a previous chapter. The short answer (don’t do it) begs the question what are you trying to find out? If you or a family member has a sensitivity to mold you probably know now of its presence. So there’s a lot of different ways to answer if testing is needed.

Usually people don’t need to know the genus and species of microbial growth they just need to know if it’s microbial. And answering the question is it good mold or bad mold is a fools errand imho.

That said, if your spouse is adamant about what she wants then by all means. If however you just have something small that needs to be cleaned (complete removal) then testing may not be needed for that (unless you plan to test before and again after for a “mold clearance”).

OTOH if your basement is crawling with fuzz and you know the bad news already we’d be having a different conversation.

Have I lost you yet? Feel free to DM a pic of whatever you’re thinking of testing. Or you can send it to Boadee at proton.me

“If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.

Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.

If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it?

He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?

My son, eat honey because it is good, And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste; So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul; If you have found it, there is a prospect, And your hope will not be cut off.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭24‬:‭10‬-‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Hey Dr. Hax, not sure if helpful but I looked in my handy dandy book on this kind of thing: it could be European Brown Rot. I looked at all the stone fruits diseases and this looks most like what you have there. I’ve included page 56 on it.

In my orchard, to build immunity, I was always a fan of neem oil and learned of its use (and a lot of other very good knowledge) from studying Michael Phillips’ books on orcharding, The Apple Grower and Holistic Orcharding. FYI Ahimsa is a good brand that I used. Hope that helps.

There’s a season for every thing. A few days ago there was a wind of humility that blew through my house. Oldest child living at home humbled before my eyes. Very necessary and good to see.

Last few days learned of some things being done that would typically evoke a strong protection response by yours truly. Today, I took pause of all that and reflected on this time we’re in; what’s at stake, and how few see what’s going extremely well (and not) and how hard it can be to STAY in humility.

Age matters not: the end result is the same. It matters how you love your family, redeem the time and exercise the muscles of humility so they stay flexible and strong.

To my nostr friends, tonight I share with you a couple treasures of Native American historical significance. First is the knowledge I’m finding very interesting in the recently published book, They Had Names. I always knew that my history classes left many hundreds of years out my American history classes but never understood why, or what was the history of the Native Americans long before the Europeans came. This has long been a mystery, until now. I am eating this book up.

Also near to my heart is this beautiful tobacco bag that my mom made for me back years ago.

The story is that when you hunted you were to give back something for when you harvested an animal. As the culture practiced, men would place tobacco or something in the area where the harvest took place. In any case it made for a great reason for me to wear this bag when I hunted. She took many hours to bran tan the buckskin leather, plan the design, and sew all the intricate beadwork on it.

We have Choctaw on her side and some on the Dawes rolls Native American census (1908?). Anyway, it’s just beautiful thing I will always cherish from her. #art of all kinds is such a wonderful and powerful emotive thing. Thankful for nostr that I can leave this here and some of my friends will appreciate it as I do.

Pretty cool. You can run Kali inside MacOS through some new fang-dangled VM thing.

Giving one the benefit of doubt is the call here sir. I doubt Contra thinks his daughters are his property. I would back him completely if he believes as I do that they are his children to train up, protect and defend, all the while remembering his agency and place. At their maturity his role also matures.

We are quick to judgment are we not?

GM nostr! Time to wakey wakey!

Ok. Well, if we’re talking about the God of the Bible, this statement doesn’t hold up. To be sure, worshipping creation (or anything else, including people) is a form of idolatry. But none of this like this truth, and we all struggle with it daily.

This is written with love, for even wolves have hearts that will either be hardened or softened by Him.

Hopefully this will help:

Also found out guys my age are easily magnesium deficient so I’m trying some new stuff. My previous made my stomach upset

“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.

Wisdom is too high for a fool; in the gate he does not open his mouth.

My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.

Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”

Single men this is for you.

You want to grow? You want to take life by the horns and do great things? Start a family. I always wanted to but found a lot of other things to occupy my time, reasons not to commit to a monogamous marriage with a woman, not truly understanding that I would never get that time back. Selfishly but unknowingly also depriving my parents of grandchildren.

But, when I finally did, I had no thought it could be this good. Men you need to experience this, with as many or as few children as God gives you. Specifically men I’m speaking to because you don’t know what you do not know (ask me how I know). How then can you live without some very important details? Future generations don’t just appear. Get busy and lay down your life for your family. It’s counter culture to declare but it really is the best.

Bless your family with children and grandchildren. AND don’t take for granted you and your wife can even bear children. There are surprising number of us that can not, no matter what is tried, so don’t assume you can always have children. I’ve seen this and it’s real. If you’re a young couple trying to have children let me know and I will pray for you.

Life isn’t perfect and neither is having children. As a dad of a blended family with both biological and adopted kids I have some experience, and that’s why I’m writing this for you.

Men, get off zero. Start a family (IMHO have as many kids as you can; yes I’m an advocate for a large family. But, like bitcoin you don’t usually see it at first.)

Get out of your own way. That and read Men and Marriage by George Gilder. Great book to drive this point in ways I could never.

Ladies, you’re welcome.

Peace and love
