I had to roll back my software using the terminal to an earlier version and that did the trick.

Whew, good to hear. I've got a million sats locked in a long-dead channel on a long-dead umbrel brick in my closet and have been hoping I could just build a new one and restore to get at those funds.
Is there a particular set of instructions you followed to do this?

Well, it's been a useless brick for months. I will reassess if I want to run another one, and then which software is stable enough to trust long term.
Understand, I’m playing around with an Umbrel but have concerns about it’s durability 🤙🏻
It’s only as durable as your hardware. I almost lost my first install due to that. Make sure to back channels up regularly. 🐶🐾🫡
Thanks FC, I wondered how often I should backup. Also which backup should use. I see backups in the lighting node, backups in RTL and in ThunderHub. I’ve done them all since I didn’t know which was best
I do amboss through ThunderHub and LND Umbrel one. This will not save your channels from Force close but at least you’ll have your funds back after on chain fees. 🐶🐾🫡

I used umbrel, went off because felt unstable, got onto Citadel which was even more unstable and underdeveloped.
Why aren’t they the same thing?
