Far from me such a thought. In the matter of boots, I refer to the authority of the bootmaker; concerning houses, canals, or railroads, I consult that of the architect or engineer [...] I bow before the authorityof special men because it is imposed on me by my on reason [...] This same reason forbids me, then, to recognize a fixed, constant and universal authority ... "

Makes a lot of sense. 'Don't trust, verify' just doesn't always work.
