Walked past a local bar and witnessed 2 people graffitiing over a promotional image (AI generated) for an 80’s night on a poster out the front of the venue.

‘FUCK AI ART. PAY REAL ARTISTS!’

Disgruntled artists making a fair point or a couple of thugs destroying private property and asking a venue owner who is probably financially fucked to not use the free market?

They ain’t wrong and they ain’t right…

While it’s understandable that the artists are frustrated, vandalizing someone’s property isn’t the way to make a point. The bar owner has every right to choose how to run their business, including using AI-generated art if it fits their budget. Targeting a small business owner, who’s probably just trying to stay afloat, feels misplaced. Instead of defacing property, why not focus on raising awareness or creating opportunities that show the value of real artists? Actions like this don’t win people over—they just undermine the message.

Especially a bar owner. They got screwed over by our government from 2020 to 2023 to the point where many of them shut down permanently. If I was a bar owner and needed a quick image for a poster that was going to be up for ~1 month I ain’t commissioning an artist.

Graffiti that targets an individual- especially their place of business or home is not a great way to make a point. Unless you have done something really messed up! Not for hosting an 80s night with about 30 people showing up to drink the cheapest beer you have on tap.
