I am now starting to play with the idea that even saying “the govt exists to protect your rights” is a flawed notion. If the state is the organisation that has monopoly of violence over a given territory (ie an official mafia) that means when the state violates these rights they are supposed to protect you have no recourse. If you ask me, I would say the gvt is the biggest violator of human rights and freedoms of all the criminal organisations globally. The bigger question is, is it possible to protect your rights or for individuals to protect their rights without the state’s involvement? I think it is.
