There was a time I was so terribly sick with a chronic disease that I was convinced my time on this earth was very short. I was in my mid to late 40's and not ready to die. It was life changing. Priorities shift away from materialism. Although our circumstances were different, I understand being granted a 2nd chance. No I don't think the feeling you described goes away for long.
