Interesting thought, I don't think so. Well also yes. Sorta. An internet-like system of information distribution, knowledge transfer, and communication? Yeah sure, but maybe not electronically as we know it today. Boiled down to the bare essence, throughout time, most of the problems and questions each generation faces remain relatively the same, it's the solutions that change and evolve based on current state of culture and technoligy.

If we consider how far we have advanced particularly in electronics, our evolution of knowledge, so to speak, took a very specific path, spanning the entirety of our known recorded human history to get here.

It took luck and skill from the brightest minds, focusing on one particular advancement at a time, and it wasn't until the culmination of all those leaps and advancements coalesced over time to bring about the internet.

It takes an incidentally coordinated and both globally/generationally decentralized proof of work to get to where we are today.

What did it take to actually get the internet? It takes a lot of components for the internet to work. Lets just pull on just one of those threads. Internet requires computers/microprocessors. Those require silicon. Well silicon must be mined. Mining requires heavy machinery. Well that requires metal and metallurgy. So on and so on. All that requires sufficient advancement in each of those different fields to lead to just one component of the internet. Each of these also have an evolutionary path of their own. Any one small change in history is enough to force a deficit in advancement in one area and potentially a surplus in another. This over time, shifts human understanding and likely humanity forges a different answer to a similar problem.

So imagine a prior ancient civilization. Let's assume they are as "advanced" as we are. Maybe they dont have electronic internet but perhaps their superior advances in agriculture or economics or culturally allow them dream up technologies we couldn't imagine. Perhaps they got so damn good at gardening they figured out how to grow plants with roots in mesopotamia and have the flowers bloom at stone henge. Crazy? I mean we got so good at electricity that a dumdum like me can teleport my thoughts across a glass box to other humans around the world instantly.
